There are 8 tools that are part of the ESTRELLLAS eLiteracy Kit:

1. Text-to-Speech Tool

There are two options for activating Text-to-Speech within the ESTRELLAS eLiteracy Kit. Users can either use the built-in text-to-speech available on any Mac or iPad, or use the Text-to-Speech extensions within their web browser. This tool reads any digital text out loud at any time.

2. Dictionary Tool

The Dictionary Tool provides the user with definitions for any word within the platform.

3. Translation Tool

The Translation Tool provides the user with translations for any word or chunk of text within the platform. Words and text can be translated into multiple language.

4. Notetaking Tool

The Notetaking Tool provides the user with a an easily accessible area for taking notes within the platform. Preferably the notetaking tool should be available from within the platform (not as a separate document open in the desktop) so as to facilitate quick migration of information to and from the notes. Also, this tool should provide an outline format for users to better organize and utilize their notes.

5. Text Layout Tool

The Text Layout Tool allows users to simplify text on any web site into a text-only, streamline version for easier reading. This can be accomplished either by limiting the amount of text shown at anytime, or by extracting any extraneous information not directly relevant to the reading.

6. Color Display Tool

The Color Display Tool allows users to change the background and text color on any web site. This tools can be useful for students who prefer reading text that is not the general dark (text) on light (background). In addition, this tool can also be used to aid reading by altering the text size and font.

7. PDF Viewer/Download Tool

The PDF Download Tool allows users to convert any web site into a PDF version. This can be useful when students need to access reading beyond the designated class time and either need a way for easy retrieval and/or offline access. This tool often also has the added feature of allowing users to transfer the converted document automatically into their Google
Docs for easy access.

8. Image Search

The Image Search feature is available through Google Docs (or any Google search). This tool makes it easy to search, find, and add images to a Google Doc or supported notetaking application.
